Lafourche Parish Public Library is excited to announce a new temporary library in South Lafourche that will be coming soon!

The South Lafourche branch sustained significant damage Hurricane Ida.

The Lafourche Parish Council unanimously approved a temporary storefront a few doors down from the permanent South Lafourche Library during its regular meeting April 25th. The library’s permanent location sustained extensive damage during Hurricane Ida and is currently waiting on materials to come in to replace the roof that was peeled back due to the high winds seen during the storm. Inside construction of the library cannot begin until the roof is watertight. As the renovation is taking longer than expected, the Library asked that a temporary location be approved to provide services to our residents in the lower Lafourche areas.

Plans are currently underway regarding materials, services, and hours of the new temporary space. The library expects to have computer services, Wi-Fi, printing & faxing, books, movies and hopefully a small children's play area. It will take 60-90 days to prepare the space before we can open to the public. The library hopes to be open mid-summer in its temporary location. Details such as operating hours and an official opening date are still in the works. Stay tuned for more information.

Check out items, pick up holds, use WiFi, & make copies & send faxes at Library -2- Geaux!

Our Library-2-Geaux van has been a success in Golden Meadow and at the Cut Off Youth Center. The van is at the COYC on Tuesdays and at the Golden Meadow Town Hall on Thursdays from 12 - 4:30 PM. Once the temporary library in Cut Off is opened, Library-2- Geaux will try to find a second location in Golden Meadow for the bookmobile to visit. For a successful bookmobile site, it needs to have electricity the van can hook up to, parking for the van and visitors, and bathroom facilities that can be utilized by both LPPL staff and patrons.

Lafourche Parish Public Library is grateful to all who have helped bring services to the southern part of our Parish. This has truly been a collaborative effort and we want to thank all of those involved: The Library Board of Control, the Lafourche Parish Council, Ms. D’Lynn Chiasson, Parish President Archie Chiasson, Golden Meadow Mayor Joey Bouziga and the many LPPL staff who have made this adventure a success. - Laura, Library Director
