Brooke's Pick: She's Not Sorry by Mary Kubica

An ICU nurse accidentally uncovers a patient’s frightening past in this riveting thriller.

I read my first Mary Kubica book nearly a decade ago, but hadn't picked her up since until recently.  After two standouts - She's Not Sorry and Local Woman Missing - I am wondering what took me so long to read her again because she absolutely can write a twisty, compelling page-turner!

Meghan Michaels loves her job as a nurse, but she is the first to admit that it can be challenging and draining.  When Caitlin, a bridge jumper, is put under her care in the ICU, Meghan is drawn into the mystery of how and why she jumped.  With the city abuzz about this case, Meghan lives and breathes this story, digging deeper into Caitlin's life and how she ended up in the ICU in a coma, fighting for her life.  Caitlin was no stranger to secrets, but neither is Meghan ...

I enjoyed She's Not Sorry considerably more than Local Woman Missing because it had SO MANY layers to its mystery!  There was a lot going on, but I liked that because it kept the gears in my brain turning and prevented me from getting bored.  I read this novel with a book club, and consider it to be a great suspense pick because there was a lot to talk about!  With so many suspicious characters and questionable actions on all parts, I never knew which way to look.

However, the end of the book was such a letdown!  This novel went from a five star read down to a four star because the ending just felt rushed and out of place compared to the slow burn tone of the rest of the book.  I love closing a novel with a feeling of satisfaction, and unfortunately this book's conclusion simply falls flat.

She's Not Sorry slowly creeps up on you, delivering jaw-dropping twists and turns and a delightful cast of incredibly dubious characters!  Fresh and fraught with peril, put She's Not Sorry on your TBR list if you're a fan of the genre! - Brooke, Public Relations Librarian
