You’re invited to pull up a chair to a year of meals, friends, and fun with the Partons, as Dolly and her sister (and favorite cook) Rachel share beloved, crowd-pleasing recipes and family stories.
Dolly Parton and her sister Rachel Parton George reminisced over their shared childhood and love of cooking to create this cookbook. The book is divided into the twelve months of the year. Each month features a special holiday or occasion. The sisters often included a beverage, an appetizer, main course, side and dessert for each occasion. With over eighty recipes, the reader is sure to find one they can easily replicate.
Simple recipes and widely available ingredients are found throughout the book. Each section has an expansive explanation on why it is special to the sisters. Then each recipe has a note from one or both of the sisters with a tip or trick thrown in to help you along. I found the recipes to be straightforward without the need to buy any new tools or gadgets. Everything in this cookbook can be made from a well-stocked kitchen without hours of effort.
If you love southern cooking and Dolly Parton, this is a must read for you! The book was filled with recipes and personal stories that told of a loving family life and cherished memories. I enjoyed the anecdotes and stories more than the recipes. As a southerner myself, I was familiar with most if not all the recipes in this book. It’s still a great read especially since it’s FREE at your library.
