An authoritative guide on natural approaches to boost everyday mental wellness and provide extra support when you need it the most.
Sticking to a new year’s resolution can be difficult. Most people give up by the second week of the year. At LPPL, we have a bevy of resources to help you stick to your resolutions. If you’re looking to improve your overall mental wellness in the new year, Pat Thomas’ book Mental Wellness: A holistic approach to mental health and healing is a great resource. This book is a great holistic tool to begin researching how to improve your overall wellness. It is broken down into easy to digest chapters that guide readers through what mental wellness is and how various holistic practices such as herbal remedies, aromatherapy, supplements, and exercise can help improve your overall wellbeing. There’s also recipes included for infusions, essential oil blends, and smoothies.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading through this book, and found many practices to incorporate into my daily life. I especially enjoyed learning about the brain-gut axis, which is basically the communication system between your central nervous system and your gastrointestinal tract. One of my favorite aspects of this book is that the author reminds to take their medicine prescribed by a doctor—essential oils can’t cure depression but certain ones can affect your mood. The holistic practices outlined in this book are designed to work with modern medicine, not to replace them. If you’re looking for easy to follow recommendations for improving mental health, Mental Wellness: A holistic approach to mental health and healing by Pat Thomas is worth checking out. - Katie, Reference Librarian
