SUMMER EXPERIENCE 2024

Pack your bags ... we're going on an adventure this summer at your Lafourche Parish Public Library!  Our 2024 Summer Experience is headed to a library branch near you this June and July to the theme of "Adventure Begins at Your Library."  Gear up to explore the world at your library ... the fun begins May 28!

Registration for our 2024 Summer Experience will be taking place in person at all branches starting Monday, May 13, 2024.  On this date, you can register for the reading challenge, pick up a Summer Explorer Adventure Passport log and calendar, and sign-up for programming that requires registration.  We will also be selling "Adventure Begins at Your Library" bags that you can purchase starting on this date.
 

SUMMER EXPERIENCE PARTICIPATION

Participation

From exploring exhilarating performances to discovering your creative side at art workshops - not to mention camping out with tons of good books - there's so much to see and do on your Summer Experience odyssey!

Here's how to participate in the fun this summer:​

  • Register for Summer Experience 2024 at your local LPPL branch, and pick up your Summer Explorer Adventure Passport!  This is where you will be logging your reading and event participation.

  • The reading goal for all ages is to read for at least 20 minutes a day.  In your adventure passport, mark off every day that you read for at least 20 minutes.

  • Once you have logged reading for 5 days, come into the library to claim a prize!  Every time you have 5 days of logged reading, you are meeting a goal and get to come in for a prize.

  • Your program goal is to attend at least one in-person library event in June and one in July for even more fun!

  • Mark off your library event attendance in the boxes at the bottom of the adventure passport.

  • Complete the challenge to be entered into the grand prize drawing!  To complete, you must have at least 30 days of reading and attended at least two library events (one in June & one in July.)

  • Visit us all summer long to check out books, attend special events, claim your prizes, and have an awesome Summer Experience!

Register for Our Summer Experience In-Person at All Branches Starting May 13, 2024

Visit any LPPL branch to register for our Summer Experience starting May 13!  Pick up an Adventure Passport log & calendar, & sign-up for registration-required programming.

Read Books,
Attend Programs,
& Log Your Participation to
Earn Prizes

Keep track of your Summer Experience progress on your participation log.  Try to read at least 20 minutes a day and attend two library programs this summer.

Reach Goals to Earn Prizes & Complete the Challenge to Enter the Grand
Prize Drawing

Earn a prize every time that you read for 5 days. Complete the challenge by reading 30 days and attending at least two events to be entered in the Grand Prize drawing!

This summer, we will also be selling Adventure Begins at Your Library bags to hold all of your checkouts.  This bag design is exclusive to our Summer Experience program - you won't find it anywhere else!  Purchase your bag for $1 beginning May 13 and throughout the summer, while supplies last!

Due to increased production costs and low sales in previous years, we will not be selling Summer Experience shirts this year.

SUMMER EXPERIENCE PERFORMANCES

Performances are one of the highlights of Summer Experience!  Enjoy interactive shows this summer from Magician Tim Spinosa, Animal Tales, Crescent Circus, and Harvey Rabbit.  Performances are fun for all ages.  No registration is required.

We provide the ideas and supplies for you to craft at home!  Stop by your local branch to pick up your Take and Make kit to make a craft at home.  New crafts for a variety of ages are put out every Monday at all branches.  Crafts are available throughout the week, while supplies last.

FAQs

Q:  How do I register for Summer Experience programming?
A:  To make it easier to register for registration-required programming, we are offering three options this summer:

  • Early Registration in-person starting May 13

  • Phone Registration starting May 28

  • Online Registration at lafourche.librarycalendar.com starting May 28

Q:  Can I count eBooks toward my reading this summer?
A:  Absolutely!  Any & all reading that you do this summer counts toward your summer reading goals, whether it is physical books, eBooks, graphic novels, magazines, & more.

Q:  How much does it cost to attend library events during the summer?
A:  No matter what time of year, there is absolutely NO COST to attend our events!  In addition, all materials for our arts & crafts workshops are provided unless otherwise specified (this is why we have to require registration for some programs.)  We are proud to be one of the top providers of free family fun in our parish, so come out and enjoy this summer!

Q:  Are we too late?  Can we still register for Summer Experience?
A:  Yes!  You can register for Summer Experience at any point throughout the summer, but the sooner you register, the more prizes you can earn by meeting & logging your daily 20 minute reading goal.  Stop in when it is convenient for you anytime now through July 31 to register & pick up your Adventure Passport log!
